A HUGE thank you to all for making Saturday magical.....

......or many small thank yous, nicely spaced out, if that's your style.

Yis the amazing

If you're recovered enough by now to do it all over again.. go check out the pics that are up at Phrequency, Philly2Night, & two.one.five.

the lovely & talented Rachael

The gallery was a huge success - it was great to see everyone enjoying the work of the talented artists featured in the FTC's first group show! Who else loved the cozy clusters of folks gathered around each skyscraper? (Just in case you were wondering...! the towers were each modeled after one of Philly's 7 tallest skyscrapers.) And I caught more than a few people smiling and laughing when they recognized a neighborhood spot from one of the City Year students' photos.
Thanks for coming, and I hope to see you @ our next events: May 21st is the City Year Students' X-po Gallery - featuring artwork, poetry, and performances.
Then June 5th is the Fishtown Collective's FIRST EVER First Friday! Featuring artists from the Premier, plus plus... More details on that TBA very soon.

AND be sure to check out the artists' websites. Contact them directly or get in touch with me @ fishtowncollective.art@gmail.com if you're into what they're up to.
Most have prints (at friendly prices) and originals on offer.

Alex Eckman-Lawn - eerie, dystopian digi-delphia - framed & unframed prints
Daniel Hughes - portraits of 1980s Phillies superstars in a variety of jell-o flavors
Nose & John F - high-flying banner of FTC pride ... with cute, toothy marshmallowians.
Joe O'Brien - knock-out Rocky illustration and original inks... Rocky-1, you-0.
Ann Siri Skrolsvik - pensive, pastel street scene in gorgeous shades of near-twilight
Matt T & Justin G - maddeningly symmetrical neon graffiti, anyone? thought so.
Rachael Ocelus - birdies birdies birdies. captured mid-coo in various media, in tones so saturated your eyes are drooling
Aidan Rich - hates his job. But good for us, he likes making sweet screenprints and looooong Epic comics
Alex McNeil - standout photography, & a collage on a mirror, mirror on the wall that's not gonna lie to you, philly.
Laura Stetser - B&W photos of a decaying city... brightened up with some nicely contrasting pastels & paintings
Sklyer Little Axe - how did you find us on Saturday? I bet it was Skyler's giant Fishtown Collective wall piece above the front door
and
the amazing students of City Year!

Fun in Fishtown: The Mayhem Ensues

They say that life is what happens when your busy making other plans. That's all good and true, but I'm beginning to think that life is what happens when your busy waiting for the FTC to open. Everything goes down tomorrow and I thought it would be important to note what exactly will be going down.
First off we've got the fabulous gallery curated by the even more fabulous Kat O'Brien. The art is spectacular and was even featured in Citypaper and Phrequency. Alex Eckman-Lawn and Alex McNeil both graced the Philly press with their masterful work in mixed media and paint.
As we all know, after the gallery comes the music. The amazing line-up has something for everyone and guarantees to be fucking wild.
All this activity and waiting reminds me of so many pop culture references but above all else it feels like Christmas eve. Waiting with the knowledge that something great will be waiting as the sun rises, or in our case sets.
We'll see you there, and in case you've forgotten:
1431 Front Street
Gallery: 7:00-8:30
Music 8:30- whenever...

Can we just give a shout out to all the lovin we've gotten?

Wow Philly, this is such a tangible way to see how receptive this city can be when people who are trying to have some fun while bringing more music to a city, especially when it's not about profits and about the art. Sure there were some doubters, in fact we were probably the biggest ones which is why we spent so much time getting ready. The stage is prepped the drinks have been ordered, and the crowd is pumped. I heard the band and artists might even be there (kidding). If anyone's interested in any more information about the collective and what were doing Phrequency did an interview with Jillian Long about what we've been up to the past couple months. Not to mention two.one.five magazine sat down with FTC founder Victor Gennaro. There are numerous shout outs from other philly papers and were excited for what saturday night brings. If anyone's itching for a taste of what saturday night brings here are links to the bands playing.

Fun in Fishtown: What to Wear!

May 9th is certainly looming and for many of us the only question left unanswered so far is the task of to wear. There will be photogs and bitches so we all had better dress to impress. So I thought I help you pick out the perfect look for our little gala. Here are my tips...

1) Work with what you have: We're in a recession people, so there's little need to go out and buy a whole new outfit (even if it is from H&M). Take a good look at you closet and if you veer away from "outfits" you usually wear and try a new combination it will feel fresh and new.
2) BLACK: There's nothing more mysterious and sexy than black. It is the most important color in a wardrobe and for our event its perfect. Try some black skinnies with an oversized black print on top. Or of course there's always a little black dress (the littler the better).
3)Missmatch Misshape: This is an event for us (the youth) so who gives a flying fuck about typical societal standards. Wear missmatched colors and prints for a one-of-a-kind feel. I'll never forget a certain spread in Vogue where they played with the idea of missmatched chic, try animal skin prints with polka-dots and sripes in any assortment of colors.

There, now you have 3 tips on looking your best for the FTC because after all, there's nothing better than looking better than everyone lese!
See you Saturday!
